The most expensive Surface Pro you can buy with a 1TB SSD (presumably) HD costs about $3200 MSRP. Now granted, that’s a lot of money, but that’s 1TB storage with an actual functioning tablet/laptop wrapped around it.
Or you can get a 1TB ScanDisk SSD HD for... !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Basically the price of a decent used Hyundai. I also saw a Lenovo 1.6TB SSD HD on sale for $32,000 - for just a few grand more you can get a Focus RS.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Yeah, who needs an ultra high-performance luxury car when you can have computer storage space!

That’s a workstation class SSD, the $14k one. Besides it won’t even fit in a laptop.
You can buy 1TB SSDs for as little as $250.

Not a straight comparison, the PCI-E SSDs are known to be absurdly expensive and are used in solver/server applications far removed from the consumer market. A Samsung Mini-SATA 1TB is $310 on Newegg, while a Samsung 2.5" 1TB drive is $330 on Newegg.
Using actual consumer-level components kinda kills your example, sorry to burst your bubble.

Granted, I didn’t click the link, but “workstation SSD” just seems to me like it would be a RAID 10 or RAID 01 array of SSDs. $1000 worth of Samsung 850 PRO SSDs with a dedicated controller card in a fancy box = multiple terabytes of mirrored data that is also striped and thus faster than any single SSD could be. Use two PCI-E X16 slots in a parallel configuration so that they aren’t bottlenecking the system and you have storage that is hilariously fast and durable.
...I wish I was rich.

I dislike these comparisons due to work. This lifesaving medical device part cost x? That is more than a Tesla/Corvette. Etc. Not the same I know, but work dejavu.

I get this at work a lot. Oh, this medical repair part costs more than my car! I could have a Tesla for that price. Yes, but a Tesla doesn’t assist in medical diagnosis. Yet.

Wow, after reading this I spent some more time looking similar things up.. The money is crazy. My brother is an engineering major and I sent him a link to this and he’s like “this is news to you?” I guess I'm just a plebe haha.
